Interview with Miles Reid - Mexico. 1998

For the shamans of ancient Mexico, both magical passes and recapitulation were key tools in their quest for freedom, the ability to perceive energy directly as it flows in the Universe.
Carlos Castaneda learned this knowledge withthe shaman Juan Matus. Castaneda later passed what he knew of his apprentices, as Miles Reid, and also explained the wisdom in his many books.
For those who do not know anything about this wisdom, and for those who want to learn more, the workshop "The freedom of the Warrior: Legacy of the shamans of ancient Mexico" will be held in Mexico City on 7 and November 8, 1998.
Some of the Tensegrity instructors, as Miles says in this interview Reid Castaneda were students, will lead the workshop. In a recent interview with The News, Miles talked about Don Juan and Castaneda's legacy:

What kind of relationship did you have to Carlos Castaneda? I

apprentice Carlos Castaneda. The gave me, along with other learners, in every way he could, the knowledge of the shamans of his lineage. Over the years he was with us, hundreds of magical passes taught. And we started with practice in the summary. More importantly, made a great effort to imbue ourselves with what he called "The Way of the Warrior." For him, this meant that there should be no contradictions between what we said and what we did. He was the total embodiment of that road, the only one we know, apart from his colleagues, whose words and actions were totally unified.

What are the magical passes, and which of them will be taught in the workshop
Mexico?

magical passes are movements were dreamed, I mean they were discovered by the shamans of Don Juan's lineage while in states of heightened awareness, called dreams. My colleagues and I are discovering that they are truly magical passes: if we allow the movement to guide us, are gateways to other states of consciousness.
The magical passes to be taught in Mexico, including a series called "Wheel of Time", another sequence that is practiced in pairs called "The Wings of Affection" and "Summary."

What exactly is the summary and as can be done?

The wrap is a specialized magical pass is consistently relive one's life, accompanied by a specific way of breathing.
Through the breath of recapitulation, we can leave old thoughts and behaviors that have been housed in our being, and return the consciousness of the universe, leaving us free to move into the realms of perception and action.
When I first heard about this, I protested that it would take years. Carlos Castaneda said it was the job of a lifetime. But what about what, I asked. What is the meaning of life without being aware of our actions?

I have understood that both the summary and the magical passes are tools used by shamans in their quest for freedom. What they mean by freedom?.

Freedom for the shamans of the lineage of Don Juan, means the ability to see energy directly as it flows in the universe, free from the shackles of socialization. For the shamans, the world as we know it is a agreement. If we step outside the boundaries of this agreement, the world becomes a wonder, and other worlds are open to our perception.

What is Tensegrity?

Tensegrity is the modern version of the magical passes, rescued from the secret and the adjustments that were made for each specific practitioner. The word Tensegrity, taken from the architecture is a combination of tension and integrity, the main forces of the magical passes.

Who or what was a warrior as perceived by Juan Matus?

To Don Juan Matus, the warrior was a being who lived every moment as if it were your last. From this point starting, the warrior has nothing to lose and no time. Carlos Castaneda told us over and over again, "the warrior only has time for freedom."

Castaneda is dead now, and will preserve your knowledge? Carlos Castaneda

left in what shamans called the ultimate travel, meaning that left the world the same way that Don Juan Matus did: with shoes and fully conscious.
Before leaving, Carlos Castaneda unveiled its knowledge in all possible ways. He told the story of his apprenticeship in 11 books and contributed a wealth of tools in one: "The magical passes." Throughout this and the Tensegrity workshops, created a unified body of practitioners - instructors and participants, who continue to work diligently, both solo and group practice, to realize the dream of the shamans of ancient Mexico: the dream of freedom.
The three female students of Don Juan Matus, Florinda Donner-Grau and Carol Tiggs Taisha, oversee the training and development of the magical passes in this context.

Is this knowledge may change?

If, sentdo that magical passes must be used or adapted to our time and way of life. These movements as they were originally practiced by the shamans of ancient Mexico were very strong, those shamans had no Sedentary life, urban life. Unlike them, we start with our sedentary state to perform the magical passes. It used to annoy
Carlos Castaneda: "But, Nagual, last week, when we showed this movement, the palms were face down ..." I was very upset.
For the shamans, the only certainty is change, and only a tradition that remains alive and fluid can survive.

What should people expect from the workshops?

People can expect that the instructors give the best of the best and, therefore, provide a context for participants to practice recap. They will teach participants how to practice Tensegrity to be an aid to the summary, as a way to help them get in the way of the warrior seeking freedom.
In another aspect, people should not expect anything and everything will be new. This is what they wanted the shamans of ancient Mexico, a state of being in which the expectations of the social order on us and everything around us ceases to exist. They can actually see and act from a new point of departure. They are truly free.
